200 vs 270 GSM: What Fabric Weight Means in an Oversized Shirt

GSM — grams per square meter — is the weight of a fabric. It is the one number on a product page that predicts how a shirt drapes, how warm it runs, and how long it holds shape. Most brands do not publish it. We publish it on every shirt.

We make oversized shirts at two weights: 200 GSM and 270 GSM. Here is the difference, and how to pick.

What GSM Actually Tells You

Take two shirts with the same cut. The heavier fabric hangs straighter, holds its silhouette under load, and survives more wash cycles before it thins. The lighter fabric breathes more and runs cooler. Neither is better. They are built for different sessions.

For reference: most standard gym tees sit at 140–180 GSM. Both of our weights are above that range.

200 GSM — The Training Tee

The Training Oversized T-Shirt is 100% cotton at 200 GSM with an acid-wash finish and a wide, unisex oversized fit.

  • Lighter on the shoulders. Runs cooler in a hot gym or a summer session.
  • Still heavy enough that it will not show sweat easily.
  • The pick for high-volume days, conditioning work, and all-day wear.

270 GSM — The Power Play and the Lock-In

The Power Play Oversized Shirt and the Lock-In are 100% pre-shrunk cotton at 270 GSM.

  • The weight is the drape. The shirt hangs straight and holds its shape through a full session.
  • High-density weave does not show sweat easily and handles chalk and knurling.
  • The Power Play fabric was gym-tested through 50+ wash cycles without shrinking or losing fit.
  • The Lock-In is cut boxy with dropped shoulders. It may shrink up to 2% after the first wash — pre-shrunk means controlled, not zero.

How to Pick

Pick 200 GSM if your gym runs hot, you train high volume, or you want one shirt for training and the rest of the day.

Pick 270 GSM if you want the pump cover drape, you train in a cold gym, or you have burned through thin tees and want one that lasts. If you are between the two, the 270 is the one customers re-order.

Sizing on both: true to size for the oversized fit. Size down for a tighter silhouette.

FAQ

Is higher GSM always better?
No. Above 300 GSM a shirt runs hot under heavy training. 200–280 GSM covers what a lifter needs.

Does 270 GSM feel stiff?
The acid-wash finish breaks the fabric in before it ships. It drapes from the first wear and softens further with washing.

Will either shrink?
Both are pre-shrunk. The Lock-In may shrink up to 2% after the first wash. Cold wash and hang dry keep any cotton shirt at size longest.

Both weights ship the same business day if ordered before 1pm EST. Free shipping on US and Canadian orders over $100. US and Canadian orders are duty-free.
